Moses Brown shows flashes in Dallas Mavericks win over Grizzlies
Brown created a second chance opportunity for the Mavs almost immediately after coming off the bench, and he was fouled as he pulled down the rebound earning two free throws with Dallas in the bonus. His size was a problem for the Grizzlies, especially when Steven Adams was on the bench.
Brown also played strong defense around the rim on Wednesday night. He did well staying big in the paint and impacting shots. Fans can see one of his strongest plays around the basket below.
The Mavericks have had issues protecting the rim this season, especially when Kristaps Porzingis is on the bench. Their center play has been subpar, and Brown earned another opportunity on Wednesday night.
The 7’2 big man had eight free throws in 12 minutes in Memphis. He kept getting the ball inside and drawing contact. Dallas had 23 foul shots on Dec. 8, which was significantly above their season average of 19.4. Brown’s impact in the paint was a key in snapping the Grizzlies' five-game winning streak.
The 22-year-old also displayed his ability to set screens and be a roll man. Superstar Luka Doncic is one of the best pick and roll ball-handlers in the league, so Brown proving he can be impactful rolling to the basket could immediately earn him more run.
It was an impressive performance from Moses Brown, but he must keep improving to earn a consistent role.
