Adjustment Dallas Mavericks fans should watch for vs. Rockets: 3. KP and DP

The Mavs have had their largest spacing issues with their starting five on the floor as Kristaps Porzingis and Dwight Powell have both been clogging the lane and bogging down the offense. Even in the first quarter against the Raptors, there were plays like this.

KP has the freedom to play in the post under new head coach Jason Kidd, but that can prevent Powell from rolling to the rim or Luka Doncic attacking the basket. The Mavs need to pick their spots, and that is what they are trying to figure out in the early going.

There can be opportunities for Porzingis to post up that do not ruin the offense. It may not be the most efficient play, but keeping KP happy and productive is more important than the play’s efficiency. Coach Kidd may need to call a few of these per game and have the Unicorn spacing the floor the rest of the time.

Fans should be watching for adjustments when Kristaps Porzingis and Dwight Powell are sharing the floor. Are they avoiding both being in the lane at the same time? Have they figured out better ways to space the floor and be efficient? Do the second-half adjustments from Toronto carryover? Fans should be watching their minutes closely.
