Luka Doncic shows another side on The Old Man and the Three podcast
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks traded for Luka Doncic on draft night in 2018, but the 19-year-old already had four years of professional experience playing in Europe. He is a basketball savant that quickly transformed into an NBA superstar. Doncic is a perennial MVP candidate that only continues to improve his game.
Fans see him guarded anytime he speaks to the media. English is not Luka’s native language, although it is one of the many he speaks. He often gives short answers in his press conferences. Doncic is honest and genuine, but he rarely lets his personality shine through.
Former Mavericks guard J.J. Redick convinced Luka Doncic to do an episode of his The Old Man and the Three podcast where the current Mavs superstar showed a different side to his personality. It is the first podcast Luka has done since entering the NBA. Here is more on his appearance.

Redick notes at the beginning of the episode that Doncic requested they keep the interview to 30 minutes, despite the former sharpshooter often doing an hour with guests. The 23-year-old wanted it to be shorter, but his humor and personality shined through during his near 35-minute chat with Redick and co-host Tommy Alter.
For example, Luka’s former teammate asked him about leaving home and signing with Real Madrid as a teenager where he used the phrase “1,000 miles away”, and Doncic started his response with, “we use kilometers in Europe” before laughing. The Mavericks superstar was hilarious and insightful throughout the interview.
Luka shared plenty of information in the episode as well. He let everyone know that he had only been to Santa Barbara, California for workouts and Six Flags in Los Angeles before coming over for the draft. It is wild to think that one of the best basketball players in the world was coming to the NBA, but had visited just one of the major cities in the United States.
Fans can enjoy a small piece of Luka’s interview on The Old Man and the Three below where he discusses hunting matchups against the opposition’s best player.
Doncic gives insight on what he looks for on the court when preparing to attack, and he talks a lot about the rule differences in the NBA that make scoring easier. The 23-year-old is a basketball genius, and it was interesting for fans to hear his perspective on what is happening on the court.
Luka let fans know that his only goal from here is winning a championship, and he would rather win a ring than earn MVP honors. Doncic wants to win, and fans know he is going to perform his best on the biggest stages. Can the Mavericks put the right pieces around him to win the title? It will be fascinating to watch.
Supporters also found out that Luka is a fan of the TV shows Friends and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Doncic named Kevin Durant as his favorite current player to watch. He discusses trash talk, his competitiveness, what makes him unique, and so much more during the must-listen interview for all Dallas Mavericks fans, so be sure to check it out.
