Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has quickly become one of the best players in the world. He led his team to the conference finals last season, and he just keeps getting better, but this year, his biggest improvement may not have anything to do with his play.

Fans heard Doncic being a more vocal leader when he was mic’d up for the season opener against the Suns. Luka has been the Mavs' best player since he entered the league in 2018, but he has not always been their vocal leader. Jalen Brunson and Tim Hardaway Jr. handled a lot of that load last season, but with JB in New York, number 77 has stepped up.

Luka’s leadership is evident everywhere fans look, and ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne ever shared an anecdote about how Doncic’s leadership has improved on NBA Today on Oct. 24. Here is a look at how it will impact the team.

Luka Doncic is stepping up his leadership for the Dallas Mavericks in year 5

Doncic is being more vocal and helping his teammates succeed. The 23-year-old has one of the best basketball IQs in the world, so more communication could be massive for the Mavericks.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne shared this on NBA Today about a conversation she had with coach Kidd.

"I was talking to Jason Kidd, his coach with the Dallas Mavericks, and he said one of the biggest things with Luka this year is that he is using his voice more. You hear more from Luka as a leader on this team, and it started to come out last year when they went to the Western Conference Finals, but it is really coming this year. If you’re going to be the MVP frontrunner, you can’t just be a good player. You’ve got to be a great leader."

Luka’s leadership could take Dallas to another level. Having the best player on the team as the vocal leader can do wonders as his teammates are likely to follow his example. The Mavericks are off to a 1-2 start, but they have only played badly in three quarters thus far. They are still trying to integrate Christian Wood and JaVale McGee, and the Mavs will benefit from Doncic being a better leader this season.

Will the Dallas Mavericks go on another deep playoff run? Time will tell, but having Luka Doncic lead the team is a positive sign that should lead to plenty of wins, so stay tuned.
