Case for Jalen Brunson picking Knicks over Dallas Mavericks in free agency

The New York Knicks are searching for a starting point guard and lead ball-handler following a disappointing season that saw them miss the postseason entirely. They have a lottery selection in the 2022 NBA Draft, and the Mavericks' first-round pick in 2023, but the Knicks want to jump back into the playoffs after qualifying in 2021.

The 25-year-old has strong ties to the Knicks front office as president Leon Rose was the agent for Rick Brunson, Jalen’s father. Rose has known Jalen his entire life, and he reportedly has made JB his top target in free agency.

Choosing the Knicks would give Brunson the chance to be the lead ball-handler, which won’t happen in Dallas. Julius Randle (unless he gets traded) will handle some of the playmaking duties, but Brunson could run the show and be the primary creator.

The Knicks also offer the glitz and glamor of being in New York City and playing 41 home games at Madison Square Garden. They plan on jumping back into contention next season and will be looking to remake their roster this summer. Adding Brunson would be massive, but will he choose the Knicks over the Mavericks and the rest of his suitors?
