Case for Jalen Brunson choosing Dallas Mavericks in free agency this summer
The Mavs drafted Brunson in the second round in 2018, and he has improved every year in their system. Under first-year head coach Jason Kidd, JB became an unquestioned starter and the team’s second-leading scorer.
The Mavericks offer him the opportunity to start in the backcourt next to Luka Doncic with plenty of chances at open looks because of the attention drawn by the 23-year-old superstar. Brunson has shot over 50 percent from the field in each of the last two seasons, and he is a career 37.3 percent shooter from 3-point range. His efficiency just keeps improving as the Mavs continue to climb the standings.
Dallas wants to build a title contender around Doncic, and Brunson is a key piece of their mix. They have qualified for the playoffs three straight years and should keep improving. JB has won at every stop in his basketball journey, so playing postseason basketball will likely factor into his decision this summer.
The Dallas Mavericks are the only NBA team that Jalen Brunson has ever played for as he heads into free agency. Expect owner Mark Cuban and the team’s front office to offer a massive contract. Does Brunson want to stay in Dallas playing off Luka, or take on a different role elsewhere?
