30 Greatest Dallas Mavericks in history, ranked by Player Efficiency Rating (PER)
By Noah Weber
23. Brandon Bass - 16.2
Brandon Bass only played for the Dallas Mavericks from 2007 until 2009, but his efficient play down low earns him a top 30 spot on this list. In two seasons for Dallas, Bass averaged 8.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting 49.8 percent from the field. Bass came off the bench for every game of his Mavericks career except for one, and he broke out as a player during his time in Dallas.
Bass was a ball of energy at the power forward and center positions, and he was an excellent finisher and rebounder. He played much bigger than his 6-foot-8 size, and his strength and scoring around the basket was outstanding. Bass could score with his back to the basket, get out and run in transition, or hit an occasional mid-range jumper.
His strength on the low block was hard to stop and he would often use a drop-step before finishing above the rim with a ferocious slam. His physicality was unmatched, but he ended up leaving the Mavs for the Orlando Magic in the summer of 2009. Seeing Bass leave hurt, but the Mavs won the NBA Finals without him two years later.
Players like Bass are hard to find in today's NBA, and the Mavs could use a player like Bass on this year's roster.
