6. Mark Aguirre - 20.8
One of the most underrated Dallas Mavericks ever is Mark Aguirre, and his dynamic scoring right when he entered the league became a trademark for Mavs basketball for his entire tenure in Dallas.
Aguirre played for the Mavs from 1981 until the middle of the 1988-89 season, and he averaged 24.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 49.2 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from downtown. Aguirre's scoring ability was unbelievable, and his best year came in just his third year in the NBA.
In his third season, Aguirre averaged 29.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 52.4 percent from the field and 26.8 percent from downtown. He finished 11th in NBA MVP voting in this season and made his first-ever NBA All-Star Game in this season as well, and he was seemingly unstoppable.
Aguirre could score with his back to the basket, get all the way to the rim, or score from the mid-range. He had great confidence as well, and his all-around offensive game from the wing was unstoppable. Averaging nearly 30 points per game is difficult in any era, but doing this in the early 1980s in his third season should get more recognition.
The Mavs traded Aguirre to the Detroit Pistons in the middle of the 1988-89 season, and he played in the NBA until the 1993-94 season.
