30 Greatest Dallas Mavericks in history, ranked by Player Efficiency Rating (PER)

29. Nick Van Exel - 15.8
Nick Van Exel only played for the Dallas Mavericks for two seasons, but his effectiveness as a scorer off the bench is something that all Mavs fans will remember from the early 2000s.
During the middle of the 2001-02 season, the Mavs sent Juwan Howard, Tim Hardaway, Donell Harvey, a first-round pick, and cash to the Denver Nuggets for Van Exel, Avery Johnson, Tariq Abdul-Wahad, and Raef LeFrentz. This was a massive blockbuster between the two Western Conference foes, and the Mavs made a big trade at the deadline for the second year in a row.
Van Exel wanted out of Denver, and although he didn't replicate his 21.4 points per game that he averaged in Denver as a starter, Van Exel was one of the best sixth men in the league for the Mavs.
In 100 games as a Maverick, Van Exel averaged 12.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 0.6 steals per game while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from downtown.
Van Exel is best known for his play in the 2003 NBA Playoffs as a member of the Mavs as he averaged 19.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 43.8 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from downtown. He helped lead the Mavs all the way to the Western Conference Finals, but they lost to the San Antonio Spurs in six games.
Van Exel was a good complimentary piece next to Dirk Nowitzki during this short, but early stretch in his career, but the Mavs traded him to the Golden State Warriors before the 2003-04 season in a deal centered around Antawn Jamison.
