30 Greatest Dallas Mavericks in history, ranked by Player Efficiency Rating (PER)
By Noah Weber
12. Josh Howard - 17.5
The best years of Josh Howard's 10-year career came as a member of the Dallas Mavericks, and he and Dirk Nowitzki were one of the more underrated Mavs duos of the early to mid-2000s.
In 431 career games for the Mavs, Howard averaged 15.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 34 percent from downtown. He was a great scorer and a key piece in the Mavs' starting lineup, but his time on the squad has seemingly been forgotten despite being one of the most underrated Mavs of all time.
Howard was an All-Star for Dallas in the 2006-07 season, but the season that will be remembered most from when he was on the team was the 2005-06 season as the Mavs made the 2006 NBA Finals and played the Miami Heat.
Howard was the third option on this team behind Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry, and he averaged 14.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game while shooting 38.8 percent from the field and 26.3 percent from downtown.
Howard didn't have the most efficient series, but his energy on both ends of the floor, scoring, and flashy dunks make his overall time in Dallas unforgettable.
