By Noah Weber
16. Jay Vincent - 16.9
Jay Vincent spent the first five seasons of his career playing for the Dallas Mavericks as he was drafted with the No. 24 pick out of Michigan State. Vincent had the best season of his career in his rookie year, which doesn't happen often.
In his rookie season, Vincent averaged 21.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 49.7 percent from the field. Vincent ended up finishing third in Rookie of the Year voting in this season, and he set a great foundation for the rest of his Mavs career.
In his third season, he helped lead the Mavs to the NBA Playoffs and he took his game to the next level once the postseason hit. Vincent averaged 15.2 points per game in these playoffs and he was a great scorer off the bench.
Vincent's time with the Mavs ended after the 1985-86 season when he was traded to the Washington Bullets. Vincent will always be remembered for helping get the Mavs franchise off the ground and he averaged 16.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 48.2 percent from the field in 382 games.
After finishing his career in the NBA, Vincent spend a couple of seasons playing overseas.
He always brought a spark off the bench or as a starter, and he needs to be recognized more for his play in the early Eighties.
