The Dallas Mavericks are turning into one of the biggest markets in the entire NBA, and the team is heading in the right direction after Dirk Nowitzki's retirement in 2019 with Luka Doncic at the helm.

The Mavs have had some all-time great players on their squad with several elite teams that fans have loved watching. Nowitzki and company brought the franchise their first-ever NBA Championship in 2011, and it's always fun to look back at the team's history.

Dallas is in the top 15 in the NBA for overall winning percentage, and while they have had some bad years, they have also had some great years. Here we dive into the top 30 Dallas Mavericks players of all time ranked by Player Efficiency Rating, or PER.

ESPN's John Hollinger developed PER, and in his words, it "sums up all a player's positive accomplishments, subtracts the negative accomplishments, and returns a per-minute rating of a player's performance."

This is an interesting stat to dissect, and it actually does a solid job of summarizing how effective a player was during his career.

With all of that being said, here we rank the top 30 Dallas Mavericks in franchise history by Player Efficiency Rating (with a minimum of 100 games played).

30. Jalen Brunson - 15.8

One of the most heartbreaking parts of the 2022 NBA offseason was former Dallas Mavericks guard Jalen Brunson deciding to sign with the New York Knicks in free agency. Dallas had multiple opportunities to extend Brunson during the 2021-22 season, but they opted to see how things panned out.

Brunson ended up earning himself a massive contract with the Knicks, and quickly already outplayed that contract as he just signed a big extension.

During Brunson's four years in Dallas, he averaged 11.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 0.6 steals per game while shooting 49.4 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from downtown.

Brunson played in 277 regular season games over these four years, and for most of his tenure as a Maverick, he came off the bench. His comfortability leading the second unit right out of the gates was phenomenal, and he progressively showed more signs of stardom as the years went on.

Brunson was the definition of a steady hand that the Mavs relied on often, and fans will always wonder what it could have been like if Brunson and Luka Doncic stayed together for longer.
