Gradey Dick's fit on the Dallas Mavericks
Gradey Dick has the potential to be a day-one rotational player on the Dallas Mavericks as he is an elite shooter and is at his best when he is moving without the ball and shooting catch-and-shoot triples.
This skill would pair perfectly with Luka Doncic's skillset as the Mavs superstar draws countless double-teams, which would leave Dick wide open on the perimeter. He also would help keep the Mavericks' pace up as he enjoys running the floor and finishing in transition.
Although Dick's ability to shoot would propel the Mavericks' offense, his struggles on the defensive end shouldn't be overlooked. The Mavs finished 25th in defensive rating last season and adding Dick isn't a move that would necessarily improve their defense.
If Dallas re-signs Kyrie Irving, they must add a wing that can defend. Dick would be a solid fit off the bench, but he wouldn't be the type of player that comes in and starts immediately. The Dallas Mavericks would likely sign a defensive-minded wing to start, even if they draft Dick.
Gradey Dick has the athleticism to improve into a good defender, but this won't happen overnight. Dallas could be scared away by Dick's struggles defending on the perimeter, but his shooting and off-ball movement more than makes up for it.
Stay tuned to see if Dallas keeps their draft pick and if Dick could be joining the Mavericks in the 2023 NBA Draft.
