Grade the Trade: Mavs finally land third star in blockbuster proposal with Blazers

Grading the trade for the Dallas Mavericks
If the Dallas Mavericks were to make this move, they'd be giving up two guaranteed role players in Josh Green and Maxi Kleber along with someone who was unplayable during the playoffs in Tim Hardaway Jr.
Although Green has great potential and Kleber had some flashes during the playoffs, this allows them to land a potential third star in Jerami Grant. Last season for Portland, Grant averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 40.2 percent from downtown.
Over the last few years, Grant has turned into an incredible scorer, and he'd turn into the third scorer that Dallas needs next to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. The Mavs would also land Matisse Thybulle in this deal, and he's someone who Dallas has had an eye on for some time now.
Dallas signed Thybulle to an offer sheet last summer, and although it was matched by the Blazers, Thybulle wanted to be a Maverick badly.
This trade would put both Thybulle and Grant into a better situation than the current one they are in, and the Mavs would be top contenders again next year. Grant would be Dallas' third scorer while Thybulle would play minutes off the bench and be an elite defensive stopper for Jason Kidd to throw at the opponent's best player.
A trade for Thybulle would elevate Dallas' defense, and he'd get plenty of open looks while playing alongside Doncic and Irving.
Potential starting lineup: Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, Jerami Grant, P.J. Washington, Daniel Gafford
Although this trade may look great on paper, it could complicate Dallas' effort to re-sign Derrick Jones Jr. Re-signing Jones Jr. is a priority for the Mavs, and seeing him walk away would be devastating.
This isn't to say that re-signing Jones Jr. would be impossible, but the Mavs are trying to create money to help re-sign him now.
Dallas gets a B- for this trade, as they land their new third scorer and defensive beast in Grant and Thybulle, but losing Green and Kleber could hurt more than people realize. Grant's success has only been on a losing team, and a regression could be possible.
For all the latest on the Dallas Mavericks this offseason, stay tuned.
