The Dallas Mavericks knocked off the team with the best record in the NBA on Jan. 5, but that was a mere footnote in the story of the evening as the franchise celebrated its GOAT Dirk Nowitzki by raising his number 41 jersey into the rafters. The evening was a long time coming and delayed by the pandemic, but it was well worth the wait.
The Mavs put on a show for Dirk, and the Tall Baller from the G delivered a heartfelt speech that had the entire crowd laughing, crying, and grinning from ear to ear as they honored a legend. The Mavericks will never have another Dirk, and it is always special to see him celebrated.
It did not stop on Jan. 5. The deserved support and admiration for Nowitzki keeps rolling in on social media. Here is a look at a small sampling before taking a closer look at some Tweets from Dirk.

Nowitzki is so respected that even the opposing team put together a tribute to him on Jan.5. Fans may have missed it, but the Warriors ran this ahead of Wednesday’s game.
Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd even took to Twitter to honor Dirk and take one more shot at offering that ten-day contract.
Nowitzki thanked everyone again on social media and gave some love to his sister, who he forgot to mention in his speech.
Dirk Nowitzki is special. He was one of the all-time great basketball players, but the seven-footer is an even better person. Nowitzki deserves every accolade, and it was fantastic to see everyone showing him so much love, support, and admiration.
This won’t be the last time Dallas Mavericks fans get a chance to honor Dirk. Owner Mark Cuban unveiled the rendering of his statue during the jersey retirement ceremony, so supporters will get another shot after its completion. MFFLs will not want to miss that one either, so stay tuned.
