Former Dallas Mavericks fan-favorite point guard signs overseas
By Noah Weber
The Dallas Mavericks are onto the Luka Doncic era, and have been for the past five years.
Doncic has helped this team start playing at a high level again and has helped this team contend for the playoffs every season.
Despite Doncic's greatness, this team had a rough patch towards the end of Dirk Nowitzki's career in which they missed the playoffs for three consecutive years. These teams weren't good, but they had players on these teams who were fun to watch and brought life to the team when they were at their lowest.
Former Dallas Mavericks fan-favorite point guard signs overseas
One of these players was Yogi Ferrell.
He played on the Mavs from the middle of the 2016-17 season until the end of the 2017-18 season and was undoubtedly a fan favorite when he was on the team. Ferrell's most notable game as a Maverick came against the Portland Trailblazers on February 3, 2017, as he scored 32 points and knocked down nine three-pointers.
Ferrell has career averages in the NBA of 7.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.6 steals per game. He started in 53 games during his NBA career, with his best play coming in Dallas.
Ferrell was a name that has flown below the radar over the last few years as he has been out of the NBA since 2021, and now he has found a new home. According to Dario Skerletic of Sportando, Ferrell signed with the Shanghai Sharks.
The Shanghai Sharks play in the CBA, and fans of the Sharks should be excited to have Ferrell on the team, as he can light up the scoreboard in bunches and is fun to watch.
Ferrell's name may be forgotten by many of the young Mavs fans now, but his time in Dallas during the back half of Nowitzki's career was electric. We'll have you covered with all the news and rumors surrounding the Mavs this summer, so stay tuned.
