Why Dallas Mavericks fans should be excited for 2022-23 season: 2. C-Wood

There are questions about Wood’s defense, but he raises the Mavs ceiling. The 6’10 forward averaged over ten rebounds per game last season, and he put up north of 19 points a night in his two seasons in Houston. Nobody is questioning Wood’s talent, but can he contribute to a winning team?

Fans have already seen how much fun watching Wood in Dallas will be. He can space the floor, operate as a roll man, post-up, and even face up and attack the rim. Wood’s offensive skill set is diverse and impressive. Now, factor in Luka Doncic drawing the defense away from the 27-year-old.

I’m excited to see what Christian Wood can do in Dallas, and he will likely determine how good the Mavs are this season. If Wood puts up 19 and 9 while playing even passable defense, Dallas will likely be among the best teams in the West. Without it, the Mavericks could be in the play-in tournament, and Wood could find himself on the trade block before February’s deadline.

The preseason showed fans why they should be excited, though. C-Wood averaged 17.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in 22.5 minutes per game. He was dominant on the offensive end, especially against second units, and he is buying into the defensive schemes. What will he do this season? Fans should be pumped to find out.
