Dallas Mavericks' top 3 'realistic' trade options ahead of 2024-25 season
By Noah Weber
1. Jerami Grant
At the 2024 NBA trade deadline, it was obvious that the Dallas Mavericks were going to make some sort of move.
All signs were pointing to Dallas having to play in the Play-In Tournament two months later if they couldn't figure something out, and they wanted to add frontcourt depth. One of the players who they were in trade rumors for was Jerami Grant of the Portland Trail Blazers, and although Dallas ended up trading for P.J. Washington instead, they showed interest in Grant again as recently as this offseason.
Last season for Portland, Grant averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from downtown. Grant has now shot above 40 percent from three in back-to-back seasons, and he'd be a fascinating get for the Mavs.
While acquiring Grant would require tons of moving parts to make the finances work since he's going into year two of a five-year, $160 million contract, he'd be a good fit. Grant is an excellent shooter and a solid defender.
The Blazers also happen to have a high asking price for him, and considering how well the Mavs did last year, it may not be a good idea to shake things up again unless things go terribly wrong this season.
Grant and Dorian Finney-Smith may be the best two fits on this list, but it's hard to imagine a world where their start to the season goes so poorly that they decide to roll the dice again and make a blockbuster trade.
