1. Dallas misses the playoffs

One scenario the Dallas Mavericks must avoid at all costs is missing the playoffs. Last season, the team missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2018-2019 campaign.

The expectation is with a full year of Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, Dallas should take the next step. This offseason, the team re-signed Irving to a three-year 126 million-dollar contract. Knowing Irving, Dallas would need to make the playoffs if they hope to keep him happy.

The same mindset goes with Doncic. While there is no indication that he may ask for a trade as he squashed those rumors last season, it is possible he could leave Dallas if the team fails to make the playoffs.

The Mavs have not missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons since the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons. If Dallas did miss the postseason, it could derail them another couple of years.

Plus, in an stacked Western Conference the team would have a lot of ground work to make up.

So the plan is simple: don't miss the playoffs and keep Doncic and Irving happy.

While there is plenty of optimism for the Mavs, the group must ensure these scenarios do not happen. Let's hope Dallas stays its course this season.
