Rumors: Mavericks employee gives brutal NSFW take on Christian Wood's game
By Noah Weber
The Dallas Mavericks made a big-time trade on draft night in 2022 as they sent a first-round pick and four players to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Christian Wood.
Wood was on an expiring contract, and the Mavericks needed some frontcourt depth. He was also coming off a season in which he averaged 17.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, 0.8 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game.
Mavericks fans thought they were getting a guy who could solve all of the team's problems and turn into the starting big. Wood seemed like he was going to be a great fit in Dallas as he is a good catch-and-shoot three-point shooter and a great scorer.

Wood shot the ball well in Dallas and often lit up the scoreboard. The issue was that he couldn't stop anyone defensively.
On a recent episode of "Locked On Mavericks," NBA reporter and Mavericks insider Tim MacMahon was asked by Isaac Harris for a summary of why Wood never worked in Dallas. MacMahon gave Harris some insight into what a Mavericks' source said about Wood and his struggles on the defensive end.
"The problem is not that he's a bad defender, the problem is that he is an (expletive) terrible defender."

This quick quote gives fans a look into exactly why Wood didn't work in Dallas. He couldn't guard anyone. Even when he would erupt for 20+ points, he would give up too many points defensively to give the team a positive impact.
He is a gifted offensive player who can score in a variety of ways, but his defense kept him out of many end-of-game lineups. Wood's true role was never established, and it doesn't look like he'll be returning to Dallas.
It looks as if the Los Angeles Lakers could be interested in signing Wood, but only time will tell where the offensive-minded big will land.
We'll have you covered with all the latest news and rumors surrounding Christian Wood and the Dallas Mavericks this summer, so stay tuned.
