Floor: Seventh seed in the Western Conference

One fear that Dallas Mavericks fans have besides playing in a tough Western Conference is how Klay Thompson will fit into Jason Kidd's system. The floor if Thompson can't fit in right with Dallas is for the Mavs to finish as the seventh seed in the West.

Regardless how talented the Mavs might be on paper, the West is ultra competitive. The Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves are the deepest teams in the West outside of the Mavericks. However, the Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers are also in the West.

History could repeat itself for the Mavericks in the case of Kyrie Irving because went it felt Irving was satisfied in Boston in 2018, Irving wasn't all in later on to remain in Boston in 2019. If Irving isn't thrilled playing in Dallas in 2025, the Mavs can drop in the standings if Irving plays lackadaisical, and Irving can opt out of his contract next summer.

The Mavericks can also see history repeat for themselves as they did in 2012 even after coming off winning the 2011 NBA Finals. The Mavericks were viewed as a talented team entering their title defense, but finished seventh in the West, and were ultimately swept by the Thunder in the 2012 first round.

It's always important to have a realistic ceiling and floor for NBA teams entering a new season. The Mavericks can find themselves in the best case the best team in the West, then having the floor being the seventh best in the West.

A competitive conference will make it tough for the Mavericks along with the questioning of whether or not Thompson can fit in Dallas perfectly. For all the latest on the Mavericks, stay tuned.
