3 prospects the Dallas Mavericks should consider with pick 10 in the 2023 NBA Draft
By Justin Lee
3. Jordan Hawkins, SG, University of Connecticut
Jordan Hawkins is a guy the Mavericks should take a look at. First, he fits the mold of what the Mavericks want to surround Luka Doncic with. He can play defense, and he is an excellent shooter. The 2023 NCAA champion may even be one of the best three-point shooters in this draft. He shot an efficient 38.8 percent from downtown last season and will look to carry this momentum into the NBA.
Hawkins has some athleticism in his bag too. He can get to the rim at the college level but isn't the most consistent finisher. When he's on the fast break, he will throw it down with authority.
Hawkins also can eventually have some playmaking ability in his bag. But now he is a guy that will make most of his money scoring off the catch and occasionally off the dribble.
Hawkins reminds me of Tim Hardaway Jr. in terms of his shooting. He has a high release point, and we didn't see closeouts affect him too much. Because the draft is before the free agency period opens, this would somewhat be a safe pick for the Mavericks. No one knows what will happen with Kyrie Irving, and if he stays or leaves, this is still a good pick.
