Prospect for Dallas Mavericks at number 2 overall: Brandon Miller
Odds to land this selection: 3.3 percent
The first debate of this draft is at number two overall. Does the team select Scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller? Henderson was viewed as the number two prospect at the start of the season, but he has struggled a bit for the G League Ignite. Injuries have played a factor, but it has allowed Brandon Miller to enter the picture.
The 6’9 forward averaged 18.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.9 blocks in 32.6 minutes per game during his lone season at the University of Alabama. He shot 43.0 percent from the field, 38.4 percent on his 3-point attempts, and 85.9 percent from the foul line.
Miller profiles as a versatile switchable wing that can guard multiple positions, handle the ball, and get buckets. Henderson is a lead ball-handler, but one that needs it in his hands to be most effective. The Dallas Mavericks have Luka Doncic, and they are hoping to bring back Kyrie Irving. Moving up to two and drafting a third point guard does not make a ton of sense.
Wings dominate the league, and Brandon Miller has the potential to be the next great one. He must continue his development, but the sky is the limit for the 20-year-old.
