December and January

December Record: 8-6

Wins: Thunder, Timberwolves, Trail Blazers, Clippers, Rockets, Spurs, Grizzlies x2

Losses: Suns, Cavaliers, Lakers, Warriors, Jazz, Nuggets

The Mavericks will begin playing some serious competitors in the month of December. This is one of the two months that I'm seriously concerned about. They will be playing the Nuggets and Lakers again, so you can count those two losses already.

The Golden State Warriors have a bunch of sharpshooters, so if the Mavericks can't guard well from beyond the arc, that's another loss. They will also run into issues on Christmas Day against the Suns. Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal will be too much to handle for the Mavericks.

December won't be that dark for the Mavericks, however, as they should easily pick up wins against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and Memphis Grizzlies.

January Record: 9-7

Wins: Trail Blazers x2, Timberwolves home, Knicks, Hawks, Pelicans x2, Magic. Grizzlies

Losses: Celtics, Lakers, Kings, Grizzlies, Timberwolves away, Warriors, Suns

This is the other month that I'm concerned about for the Mavericks. They have some very good teams on the schedule like the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, and Sacramento Kings. They will also split the two Timberwolves games this month as well, as I have a hunch that the Timberwolves will want revenge for the road loss in Dallas.

The Mavericks should be able to take care of the Trail Blazers twice this month as well as the New Orleans Pelicans. They should also be able to beat Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks at the American Airlines Center. The Mavericks should also pick up a win over the Atlanta Hawks.

This is the toughest back-to-back months I've seen the Mavericks have in the last five years. If the team can focus and get more than 17 wins during these two months, it would be remarkable.

Record after December and January: 29-19
