Jalen Brunson was better for the Mavericks, Kyrie Irving is better for Luka Doncic

It's always fun to fantasize about what the Mavericks could have been last year if they hadn't lost Jalen Brunson to free agency. Would they have made it back to the playoffs? Would they have gone back to the Western Conference finals? Unfortunately, Mavs fans will never know, and it will always be a question.

However, one thing can be certain - Brunson would have been amazing for the Mavericks. The young guard paired alongside Luka Doncic would have made for a dream roster, and the Mavericks wouldn't have had to give up additional assets in a separate trade.

On the flip side, Kyrie Irving's addition adds many question marks to an organization with plenty of existing questions. But with a successful 2023 offseason in the books, the duo of Doncic and Irving are poised to prove the doubters wrong.

Irving's brilliant play and veteran leadership alongside Doncic will continue to prove why he is better for Doncic's career and development. It will be interesting to watch a full season of the star duo playing together, but one thing is for certain, there is a lot of pressure on Irving to prove why he belongs in Dallas and why he will become Doncic's greatest teammate.
