1. Josh Howard, 2007

The 2003 NBA Draft will go down as one of the greatest of all time with all the talent that was in it. From LeBron James to Carmelo Anthony to Chris Bosh to Dwyane Wade and more. But, when the Mavs entered the 2003 NBA Draft, the team was in a tough position holding the 29th overall pick.

Value with a late first-round pick was needed for the Mavs, and they struck with drafting Josh Howard 29th overall. Howard made the All-Rookie Second Team in 2004 and kept improving. Despite losing a devastating Finals in 2006 to the Miami Heat, Howard was a key contributor for the Mavs in the playoffs. In the following 2006-07 season, Howard broke out.

Howard broke out averaging 18.9 points per game, and 6.8 rebounds per game. Howard also shot 39 percent from three and was a 2007 All-Star along with Dirk Nowitzki who would win the 2007 MVP. But, Howard's All-Star appearance and Nowitzki's MVP would be forgotten after the Mavs were upset by the 42-win "We Believe Warriors" in the first round of the 2007 NBA Playoffs.

Howard was never an All-Star again, even with averaging a career-high 19.9 points per game in the following 2007-08 season. Howard's tenure in Dallas ended when he was traded to the Washington Wizards in February 2010. Howard's career would be done following the 2012-13 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Howard had two worthy seasons of being an All-Star in Dallas after 2007, but it unfortunately wouldn't happen for Howard.
