The Dallas Mavericks just lost their second-straight preseason game to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and they play Real Madrid on October 10.

Dallas had a successful summer, as they signed multiple impactful free agents, and drafted Dereck Lively II and Olivier-Maxence Prosper.

Although Dallas' offseason seems to have been solid this season, not every signing will work out.

Making front office decisions in the NBA is tougher than most people think.

Especially when you have to build for the future as well as right now. It's a hard balance to find sometimes, and teams sign players way past their prime without even knowing it.

The signing looks great at the time, but once the player hits the floor it looks like an obvious mistake. Aging is a normal thing, and players can't play at an elite level for their entire career.

Here's a list of 15 players that the Dallas Mavericks signed past their prime.

15. Kemba Walker

Towards the end of November 2022, the Dallas Mavericks released Facundo Campazzo and signed Kemba Walker.

Campazzo struggled during his time in Dallas and Walker was a 4-time All-Star, so signing Walker was going to work out great, right?

Sadly, Walker only played nine games for the Mavs, and they released him right before his contract became fully guaranteed. In those nine games, Walker averaged 8.0 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.

There were some bright spots from Walker's time in Dallas, including a 32-point game in his third game playing for Dallas, but Walker was nowhere close to the player that he once was.

His role steadily declined after that great game he had against the Cleveland Cavaliers, and it became obvious that Dallas wouldn't need him. Walker's knee was a concern for his entire stint in Dallas, and he didn't get picked up after Dallas released him in January.

Walker is now signed with AS Monaco on a one-year contract, and there is a possibility that Walker's last stop in the NBA was when we played for the Mavs this past season.
