1. Re-signing Dwight Powell

One of the Dallas Mavericks' most scrutinized players over the last few years has been Dwight Powell, and they re-signed him on a three-year deal this summer.

Dallas landed him as a throw-in in the Rajon Rondo trade, and he has been a big part of what Dallas does ever since.

In 596 games for Dallas, Powell has averaged 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. He has also started in 244 games, showing that he has been someone whom Dallas has leaned on over the years.

Despite Powell's reliability and unwavering hustle, he is not built to be a starter in the NBA.

That's why this season has been perfect for Powell. Dereck Lively II's elite start to his rookie year has allowed Powell to come off the bench, and he has done a decent job of that, but should Dallas have used that money on a big man that provides more defensive upside?

The answer to that question could be yes, as Dallas' defense has been awful this year. Powell provides no rim protection, and Maxi Kleber's rapid decline has put Dallas in a bad position.

Powell is a great leader, and the defensive struggles aren't all his fault by any means, but Dallas could regret giving him a contract considering how they could have added a solid defender for that type of money.

For all the latest on Dwight Powell and the Dallas Mavericks, stay tuned.
