The 4 most overpaid Dallas Mavericks for next season
By Noah Weber
3. Tim Hardaway Jr.
Is Tim Hardaway Jr. a vital piece to the Mavericks' success?
Absolutely.
Did the Mavs overpay for him when they signed him to an extension?
Also yes.
The Mavs acquired Hardaway Jr. through the Kristaps Porzingis trade with the New York Knicks, and he has been with the team ever since. In 273 games for the Mavs, Hardaway Jr. averages 15.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 0.6 steals per game.
He is one of the Mavs' best and most reliable shooters, but he is set to make over $34 million over the next two seasons.
His contract isn't awful for the Mavs, but it looks like the rest of the league isn't a big fan of it, as Hardaway Jr. has been in trade rumors all summer. The Mavs haven't been able to find a trade partner for him and could eventually have to include draft capital if they want to shed his contract.
Hardaway Jr. is a flamethrower from downtown and was playing some of his best basketball at the end of last season, but the Mavericks' urgency to move him and lack of interest from around the league is showing that he is a tad bit overpaid.
The Mavs could be trying to move him to free up minutes for Jaden Hardy and Seth Curry, but his contract is likely a part of the reasoning as well.
