5 Massive strengths, 5 weaknesses for Mavericks heading into playoffs
By Will Miller
6. Weakness: Health
As well as the Dallas Mavericks have played throughout this recent stretch, the injury bug has not been kind to this team all season long. While the Mavericks may have avoided injuries to superstar's Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving throughout most junctures this season, role players such as Dante Exum, Josh Green, Maxi Kleber, and Dereck Lively II have all missed a significant amount of games for the Mavericks this season.
Most pointedly, Green and Lively II are out with an ankle and knee sprain respectively as Dallas approaches the playoffs. Green and Lively II play integral roles for this Mavericks team and are arguably Dallas' two most important pieces off the bench, so while it's great to see the Mavericks churning through adversity to win games at the moment, re-integrating Green and Lively II back into the lineup will be crucial for Dallas' success in the playoffs.
This will not be an easy process as both players are coming off of injuries that have held them out for longer than a week, and nearly a month in Green's instance. While it seems inevitable that both Green and Lively II will return for the playoffs based on reporting, it's not guaranteed that either of them will get to play before the end of the regular season, and they'll only have a few games at best to get their feet back under them before the playoffs.
The Mavericks clearly haven't had the most healthy season, especially in this recent stretch, but they can at least be thankful that they project to be at full strength heading into the playoffs, as that's certainly not the case for every team in the league. While injuries have plagued the Mavericks all season, we can only hope that their health becomes a strength for them if they continue to go deeper in the playoffs.
