The Dallas Mavericks improved to 2-0 on Friday night with a 125-120 win over the Brooklyn Nets behind a dominant game from Luka Doncic.

Doncic finished with 49 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and shot 9-14 from downtown.

Doncic dominated this game and made an insane circus shot with under 30 seconds remaining to give Dallas the lead.

Despite Doncic's monster game, this game had a deeper meaning behind the game that was being played. It was Dorian-Finney Smith's return to Dallas.

The Mavs traded Finney-Smith at the trade deadline last season to acquire Kyrie Irving, and before Friday night, he hadn't returned to the American Airlines Center.

The Mavericks gave Finney-Smith a tribute video before the game, honoring him for all of the blood, sweat, and tears that he gave the team for the previous seven seasons. Finney-Smith was a key piece in Dallas for his entire tenure and went from going undrafted to being a starter in the playoffs.

His story is nothing but amazing, and most Mavs fans hated to see him go in the Irving trade.

In Finney-Smith's homecoming game, he finished with 12 points on 4-7 shooting from downtown. He was doing many of the same things he did for Dallas for Brooklyn, making this homecoming game even harder for the MFFLs that still miss him.

After the game, Doncic and Finney-Smith spoke, and when asked about the interaction, Doncic made a vow that Mavs fans would love to hear.

"That’s my guy," Doncic said. "I miss him so much, and I know we’re going to play [together] again someday.”

Doncic and Finney-Smith were known for being best friends, and hearing this from Doncic shows their lasting friendship and desire to play with each other once again.

Although they can't make this move now, Dallas and Brooklyn could engage in trade talks around the trade deadline once a year has passed since the original deal. Doncic never said where he wants to play with Finney-Smith, but it seems obvious that he could push Dallas to make a move for him if he were on the trade block later this season.
