Kyrie Irving poised to become ultimate Celtics villain, crush their hopes
By Noah Weber
To begin the 2024 NBA Finals, the Dallas Mavericks stared in the worst possible way.
Dallas dropped three games in a row, with their first two losses coming on the road on the Boston Celtics home floor. Kyrie Irving struggled tremendously in these first two games, and he couldn't get anything going.
Irving was not himself, and he was making mishaps that he never makes usually. He then promised Celtics fans they'd be back for Game 5, and he responded with excellent games in Games 3 and 4.
Kyrie Irving poised to become ultimate Celtics villain with a big game in Boston
The Celtics fans' hate for Irving has gone way over the line over the years, and it's clear that it's not going to stop any time soon.
Irving's solid performances in these two home games have given him great momentum, and Game 5 is the perfect opportunity for him to become the Celtics' biggest villain ever. The Boston crowd is going to let him hear it all night, and his history in Game 5s is solid.
An Irving masterclass when all of the odds are stacked against him combined with a win for Dallas would turn him into more of a villain in Celtics fans' eyes and would make Mavericks fans love him more than they already do.
Irving's struggles in the first two games of the Finals were uncharacteristic, and a huge game from him could turn the tide of this series. If Irving leads the Mavs to a win on the road despite the hostile Celtics crowd and they find a way to win the series, he would undoubtedly become one of the biggest villains to Celtics fans of all time.
They are ruthless in the way that they treat certain players, and a big game from him in Game 5 could change everything in this series and silence them once and for all. He has the momentum along with a good feel for this matchup now, and his first win back in TD Garden since he left would work wonders for his confidence.
