The Dallas Mavericks landed two players that fans have already fallen in love with as they acquired Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington on Thursday.
Both players played a massive part in Dallas' home win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday, and their fits were seamless right away. Gafford was a monster on the offensive glass and was dunking everything while Washington played a great all-around game.
The American Airlines Center had more energy than any other game this season, and Dallas welcomed their new additions with open arms.
Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd reveals plan for new trade acquisitions
Before the game, the Mavericks held an introductory press conference for both players, and they seemed ecstatic to be joining the Mavs. About two hours later, Mavs head coach Jason Kidd revealed his plans for Washington and Gafford at his pregame press conference.
Kidd said that Washington would likely have a chance to join the starting lineup before the All-Star break while Gafford would have a chance to start if the team isn't fully healthy. If the team is fully healthy, then Gafford likely won't have a chance to start.
Dereck Lively II remains out for Monday night's game against the Washington Wizards, and he could miss Wednesday night's game against the San Antonio Spurs, meaning that Gafford could get the chance to start before the All-Star break.
Gafford's performance on Saturday proved that Kidd could have a tough choice to make even when Lively II is healthy, as Gafford fit beautifully into the Mavs' lineup. Fans will likely know if Gafford will join the starting lineup for tomorrow's game after Kidd's pregame press conference.
Washington could also join the starting lineup on Monday. It looks as if he will become a routine starter eventually while Gafford could be behind Lively II.
For all the latest on Jason Kidd, Daniel Gafford, P.J. Washington, and the Dallas Mavericks this season, stay tuned.
