Grading the trade for the Miami Heat

The Miami Heat just made the NBA Finals last season, and there's a good chance they'd return next season after they land star point guard Damian Lillard in this trade.

In this deal, they give up considerable draft capital, but they land a star point guard in return. It's also important to note that Tyler Herro was hurt during most of the Heat's playoff run, and they made it all the way to the NBA Finals without him.

Duncan Robinson played around 19 minutes per night during the Finals, but they could find a shooter elsewhere. Lillard takes this team to another level, and they could be contending for the NBA Finals for years to come.

This trade wouldn't rush their big three of Lillard, Bam Adebayo, and Jimmy Butler, as all three players are under contract for multiple seasons. No one would want to play this team in the playoffs, and Lillard would finally have the chance to contend for a championship.

Potential starting lineup: Damian Lillard, Jimmy Butler, Caleb Martin, Kevin Love, Bam Adebayo

The Heat get an A for this trade because they landed one of the best point guards in the league without giving up too much. Herro and Robinson leaving depletes their guard depth and shooting, but Lillard is worth that risk.

heat grade. A. Form an elite big three of Lillard, Adebayo, and Butler. Lose shooting and draft capital, but have the chance to contend for next few years. Miami Heat
