Grade the Trade: Mavericks form elite big three with bargain trade
By Noah Weber
The Phoenix Suns made the first big move of the offseason earlier this week when they traded for Bradley Beal.
This was the second blockbuster trade from the Suns in the last few months, as they traded for Kevin Durant at the trade deadline last season. Now the Suns have a big three of KD, Beal, and Devin Booker.
That is an excellent big three, but now they must make moves to bring in some depth. They can't depend on such a top-heavy team to win a championship. This team has to bring in some solid role players.
The Suns still have Deandre Ayton under contract, but he is set to make over $100 million over the next three seasons. They have to move him to gain some flexibility and assets to add to their squad that's trying to win a championship. Ayton is a solid center, but you can't win the Finals with a super top-heavy roster in this era of the NBA.
We saw the Nets fail with a big three of Kyrie Irving, KD, and James Harden, and the Suns couldn't make it out of the second round last season. They only played half a season with Durant, but they still failed to achieve the high expectations they received after the trade.
One team that could help give the Suns some depth is the Dallas Mavericks.
They are in need of a new starting center and have some role players that the Suns could want.
Here's a look at a trade between Dallas and Phoenix that would increase both teams' title odds.
