4. Not trading for Deandre Ayton

One of the moves that upset fans the most this summer was when the Dallas Mavericks didn't trade for Deandre Ayton.

Although the rumored deal has never been confirmed, some rumors were going around that the Mavs and Suns engaged in talks of a deal that included Tim Hardaway Jr., Richaun Holmes, and JaVale McGee for Ayton. Phoenix didn't want McGee as part of the deal, and the talks fizzled when Dallas failed to take him out of the trade.

All of the talk from these trade negotiations is confusing, and we may never know the exact intensity of these conversations, but the Mavs could regret not trading for Ayton at this point in the season.

Ayton is averaging 12.9 points, 10.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game while shooting 58.7 percent from the field. Although these numbers aren't great, especially considering Ayton's past numbers, Dallas could still regret not making a move for him.

Ayton would have formed a big three with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving and would have allowed Dereck Lively II to come off the bench. This would have given Dallas two excellent centers while also allowing Lively II to learn from Ayton.

Many fans have conflicting thoughts on Ayton, but maybe Dallas could have been the perfect place for him to turn into a top center in the NBA.
