Thing Dallas Mavericks front office should look to accomplish in 2023: 1. Acquire second star

Protecting your first-round picks is only a viable strategy if the Mavericks use them to make a significant move. They should be all-in to build a title contender around Luka Doncic. The 23-year-old superstar is on pace to go down as an all-time great, and Dallas must do whatever they can to build around him.

Convincing Doncic against short-term upgrades at the deadline puts pressure on the front office to land a star before the summer of 2024. Dallas has two years to build an annual title contender around number 77. If they fail, he could request a trade and look to win a championship elsewhere.

There will be a superstar available next summer, and the Dallas Mavericks will have all of their first-round picks to offer. Developing Jaden Hardy and Josh Green this season becomes key in that sweepstakes. Having two young rotation pieces plus the picks could vault Dallas to the top of the list, and superstars will want to play with Luka.
