Thing Dallas Mavericks front office should look to accomplish in 2023: 2. Sell high on THJ & Wood

The only untouchable player on the Mavs roster should be Luka Doncic. Dorian Finney-Smith would be next on the list as the organization has helped him go from undrafted to one of the best 3-and-D players in the league. Both players are just starting new extensions, but Dallas should even part with Doe-Doe if it means landing another superstar.

The Mavericks have explored the trade market for Tim Hardaway Jr., but the 6’5 wing is coming off season-ending surgery. He is back to 100 percent and ready for training camp. If THJ gets off to a hot start, Dallas should look to sell high.

Hardaway Jr. has three years and $53.7 million left on his contract. Do the Mavericks want to pay their sixth man that type of money? With Doncic on a max deal, their assets could be better used elsewhere.

The Mavs traded for Christian Wood this offseason, but the 6’10 big man is on an expiring contract. He should be a fantastic fit next to Luka Doncic because of his ability to stretch the floor, rebound, and get buckets. If he plays well in Dallas, the Mavericks should look to sell high on the trade market. Could they flip Wood at the deadline to improve their chance of making the trade that pushes them into title contention?
