As the 2023-24 season concludes for the Dallas Mavericks, it's hard to accept the team fell in five games in the NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics. However, as most would say say, the future is bright in Big D.

With the superstar duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Dallas will be destined to get back to the Finals with Jason Kidd leading the way as head coach.

However, part of the reason why the future for Dallas is bright is the people that Mark Cuban hired in the organization. With Cuban stepping down as head of basketball operations since he sold a majority stake in the team earlier this year, Cuban trusts the people he's hired.

Mark Cuban no longer in control of basketball operations for Mavericks

Cuban sold his majority stake of the Mavs in November 2023. The Adelson and Dumont families bought Cuban's majority stake. Yesterday, it was announced Cuban would no longer be in control of basketball operations. However, maybe this is a good thing because of how Cuban has the right people in charge of the Mavs to build a winner.

On May 6, 2024, Patrick Dumont and Nico Harrison rewarded Kidd with a contract extension in the middle of the 2024 Playoffs. This clearly shows that Kidd has earned Dumont and Harrison's trust moving forward and rightfully so.

Kidd took over as head coach of the Mavs prior to the 2021-22 season. In three seasons as coach, the Mavs have been to two Conference Finals and one NBA Finals. In three seasons, that's an impressive start to a coaching tenure.

Prior to the NBA Finals starting, Dumont also gave general manager Nico Harrison a multiyear extension. Just like Kidd, Harrison was hired prior to the 2021-22 season.

Harrison earned his extension just like Kidd did. After making aggressive moves at the 2024 trade deadline, Harrison constructed a roster well put together to make noise in the Playoffs. It did, with the Mavs reaching their first Finals in 13 years. Harrison was also aggressive in 2023 when he landed a trade for Irving which helped the franchise and help Doncic mature.

The Mavs are in great hands with Dumont and Harrison at the helm, but it doesn't feel real that Cuban is no longer running basketball operations for the team. He has done a great job for so many yearss, and going into the new era without him will be tough for some Mavs fans.

It's clear that the Mavericks believe in Kidd and Harrison to lead them to the promise land. And after making the 2024 Finals, there's so much optimism going forward that the Mavs can build a championship team. Cuban trusts his people that he has hired and it can make sense for Cuban to step down. Both of them came into the organization at the same time and want to win together.
