Building a dream Luka Doncic lineup with 1 HOF, 1 All-Star, 2 role players

If the Dallas Mavericks could pair Luka Doncic with one Hall-of-Famer, one All-Star, and two role players, what would the dream lineup look like?

SG: Jrue Holiday

This was a tough choice, as I was torn between using a role-player slot or my lone All-Star. In the end, I went with an All-Star, adding Jrue Holiday to play the two-guard next to Luka Doncic.

With Doncic at the helm, this dream Dallas Mavericks lineup wouldn’t need anything flashy. They don’t need players who need the ball in their hands to be successful.

Holiday is the perfect complement to Doncic on both ends of the court.

Offensively, he’s a top-notch three-point shooter who can knock down his open jumpers and explode for a big scoring night every once in a while. Plus, we saw how well Doncic played with an extra ball handler next to him (Jalen Brunson, Spencer Dinwiddie, etc.). Holiday can do that.

Meanwhile, on the defensive end, there aren’t many players better to help overcome Doncic’s defensive challenges. Holiday is widely regarded as one of, if not the best defender in the NBA by his peers.

Having his defensive talents next to Doncic would be perfect, and his offensive skillset fits well, too. Would Holiday be a Hall-of-Famer if he retired today? Maybe because of the championship, but it’s not a concrete enough answer to bump him into that tier.

Honorable mentions (from each other tier): Klay Thompson (HOF), Derrick White (RP)
