How could the Dallas Mavericks capitalize on the Brooklyn Nets turmoil?

The Mavs want to contend next season around Luka Doncic, so they are unlikely to have interest in the Sixers first-round pick or the young assets Brooklyn will be eager to move in search of roster upgrades.

Dallas would love to add another shooter, and they will be searching for wing depth. They’d love to add Seth Curry or Joe Harris, but the Nets need shooting, and Dallas is unlikely to give up Dorian Finney-Smith, Reggie Bullock, or Maxi Kleber as part of a package to acquire either.

The best way for Dallas to capitalize would be to figure out a way to acquire restricted free agent Nicolas Claxton. The 6’11 big man is not a shooter, but he would give Dallas a shot blocker that can defend on the perimeter. Claxton has immense defensive potential, and he could blossom in head coach Jason Kidd’s system.

The Brooklyn Nets are going to make moves, but it is unlikely that the Dallas Mavericks will be involved. Brooklyn has no reason to try to help a fellow contender, and the two teams do not match well on perspective deals.
