In today's NBA, there is oftentimes plenty of "could have happened" moments.

There are plenty of trades that "almost" went down every season, and plenty of these stories never get out as it happens so often.

The Dallas Mavericks have had plenty of these moments, including the Deandre Jordan fiasco in the summer of 2015 and when they almost traded for Kobe Bryant in 2007.

4-time NBA Champion reveals time Mavericks almost signed him

One story that hasn't been talked about much came to light recently, and this particular player would have been an outstanding fit in Dallas if they could have landed him.

Former NBA All-Star and four-time NBA Champion Andre Iguodala was on JJ Redick's podcast "Old Man and the Three" recently and talked about how he almost went to the Mavericks in the summer of 2013.

"I was actually going to go with Dallas," Iguodala said. "Dallas was the spot. I wanted to go play in Dallas. [I'm a] big fan of Mark [Cuban]."

Iguodala also talked about how he was a big fan of how the Mavericks organization treats their players. Iguodala was ready to sign with Dallas, but Dwight Howard's free agency held the process up as Dallas pursued him.

Dallas' pursuit of Howard "helped" Iguodala get to the Warriors as he ended up signing with Denver as part of a deal to get him to Golden State. If Dallas didn't pursue Howard, Iguodala would likely have signed with Dallas.

Having Iguodala on the same team as Dirk Nowitzki would have been fun, but the deals in the NBA fall through all the time.

The Mavericks have had a great start to the regular season, as they are already 2-0. Luka Doncic is playing some of the best basketball of his career and has come up huge for Dallas in the clutch. Dereck Lively II is also playing at a high level, and he is the NBA leader for field goal percentage.

Dallas' next game is on Monday night against the Memphis Grizzlies.

We'll have you covered with all the latest on Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks this season, so stay tuned.
