5. Charles Lee

Lee is another assistant looking for his first head coaching experience. He has been with the Milwaukee Bucks since 2018, and they promoted him to associate head coach before the 2022-23 season. The 38-year-old has interviewed for several head coaching openings in recent years, and he was recently a candidate for the Hawks before they hired Quinn Snyder.

He would bring a bit of youth to Dallas. Lee would be the Mavericks' youngest head coach in team history, and just the third one ever under 40 years old. The current Bucks assistant has earned high praise for his role in player development, and he is known as a player’s coach.

Is that what the Dallas Mavericks need around Luka Doncic? Jason Kidd was known for being hard on his players in his first two stints as an NBA head coach, but he appeared to relax a lot of that last season as Dallas reached the conference finals. The Hall of Fame point guard has also done well developing talent, but Lee could bring some youth and energy to the squad.

Charles Lee played four years of college basketball at Bucknell University before playing four seasons professionally overseas. He certainly does not have the Hall of Fame playing resume that Jason Kidd has amassed, but his time spent abroad could help him connect with Luka and the Mavs' other international players.
