Grading Dallas Mavericks hypothetical trade: 1. Hornets blockbuster

In Bobby Marks’ trade predictions, he noted that he wanted to see the Mavs take a swing at this deadline. The Hornets will be sellers, and they have plenty of assets that could help a contending team. Could Dallas swoop in and plug multiple holes with a blockbuster deal? Here is what Marks wants to see.

Terry Rozier would give the Mavericks the third playmaker they desperately need to complement Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie. He is averaging over 21 points and five assists per game this season and is a career 37.0 percent 3-point shooter.

Kelly Oubre Jr. and Jalen McDaniels are both talented wings that would give the Mavs depth and improve their defense. Would Dallas part with a top-ten draft protected first round pick to make this move? If so, it could help make another playoff run.

Grade: B+

If the Mavericks are serious about upgrading their roster around Luka Doncic before the Feb. 9 trade deadline, this is the type of move that they should be searching for. The Hornets are one of the few sellers in the market, so asking prices could be high, but this trade allows Dallas to fill multiple holes and dump two negative contracts.
