3. Josh Richardson

As mentioned, the Mavericks’ biggest need will be on the defensive end, but the players they add in that regard should also be able to provide some sort of value on offense, too.

Josh Richardson is a perfect example of that.

Richardson is a former teammate of Luka Doncic, as he was a member of the Dallas Mavericks for the 2020-21 season. They swapped Seth Curry for Richardson, and it never ended up paying off as they wanted it to.

The idea was for Richardson to be a better presence on the defensive end, and while that worked out, his shooting trailed off when in Dallas.

Since then, Richardson has refound his 3-point shot, shooting 41.5 percent from deep in 2021-22 and 36.5 percent from distance this past season. Adding him back into the mix would, in theory, give the Mavericks a boost on both ends.

Again, that was the idea when the Mavericks brought Richardson on board last time around, but with the current makeup of their team, it couldn’t hurt to give the experiment a second chance.

If Richardson can bring league-average 3-point shooting to Dallas alongside his defensive presence on the perimeter and underrated ball-handling skills, he would be a great fit alongside Doncic and Irving.
