12 Potential Mavericks free agent targets with ties to Jason Kidd
By Tyler Watts
4. Dennis Schroder
Schroder’s first stint with the Lakers nearly earned him a massive contract, but the point guard thought he could get more in free agency. The decision backfired as Schroder had to settle for the taxpayer mid-level the following year, but the 6’3 guard gave credit to Jason Kidd for helping him improve his game.
J-Kidd is one of the best point guards of all time, so it should come as no surprise that he helped Schroder limit his turnovers. It was the Hall of Famer that helped Jalen Brunson take the next step and get a $104 million contract from the Knicks. Kidd certainly knows a thing or three about playing the point guard position.
Schroder is currently back with the Lakers, and he played a key role in them reaching the postseason after a rough start to the regular season.
The 29-year-old will again be a free agent this summer, and the Dallas Mavericks should have interest. Coach Kidd has a positive relationship with the 6’3 guard, and Schroder could give the franchise a third rotation point guard. Dallas used a similar rotation during their run to the conference finals in 2022 with two ball handlers on the floor at all times.
Would Dennis Schroder leave LeBron James to play with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in Dallas for similar money? Expect Schroder to look for more, but do not be surprised to see him back on a contender next season.
