7. Talen Horton-Tucker

The Lakers acquired THT in a 2019 draft night trade with the Orlando Magic. It was a move that happened just days before Jason Kidd was announced as LA’s assistant coach. Horton-Tucker played in just six games as a rookie, but he kept getting better. The 6’4 wing cracked the rotation in year two and showed some improved ball-handling and playmaking chops.

Kidd left for Dallas in 2021 as THT took another step forward before the Lakers traded him for Patrick Beverley in the summer of 2022. The 22-year-old averaged a career-high in scoring and assists per game in his first season in Utah, but it is still not easy to see where Horton-Tucker fits on a contending team.

The 6’4 wing is undersized and struggles on the defensive end of the floor. Could J-Kidd figure out a role for THT? Horton-Tucker has an $11 million player option for next season, and he could just decide to play out his final year in Utah.

Talen Horton-Tucker does not fit on the Dallas Mavericks. They have plenty of ball-handling and playmaking with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving leading their charge. THT is a below-average shooter and a poor defender making it impossible to see his place on the Mavs next season.
