What will the Dallas Mavericks receive in return from an offseason trade?

The Mavs will either look to fill holes in their roster or salary dump players to create roster space.

They need a center upgrade and are searching for another defensive-minded wing that allows Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock to get some rest in the postseason. Dallas would love to trade for both of those pieces this offseason. The Mavericks could acquire one using the taxpayer mid-level exception, but that will add more than $20 million to their luxury tax bill when factoring in the penalties.

Dallas could also just look to straight salary dump someone to create a roster spot. It would likely cost the Mavericks a draft pick, and they would receive a trade exception in return. Davis Bertans, Dwight Powell, Trey Burke, Sterling Brown, and Marquese Chriss would all be candidates to be sent out.

Moving Bertans would cost a first-round pick and potentially multiple draft choices because he still has $38 million guaranteed left on his contract over the next two seasons. Powell also would cost a first-rounder, but the other three may be able to be let go for a couple of second-rounders.
