Could the Dallas Mavericks acquire Kevin Durant if he demands a trade?

The Mavs would unquestionably be interested in trading for Durant, and they would be willing to offer every asset not named Luka Doncic to acquire him. Dallas would instantly become title contenders by adding the 12-time All-Star, and teams would have zero chance of stopping their offense.

The Mavericks would not have the best return package because they still owe their 2023 first-round pick to the New York Knicks from the original Kristaps Porzingis trade, and the Mavs do not have a young future star type to headline their offer.

That likely would not matter, though. Superstar players almost always get their way in trade demands. Anthony Davis wanted to be traded to the Lakers, and he ended up in Los Angeles. James Harden wanted out of Houston to join the Nets before desiring to team back up with the Daryl Morey in Philly. Harden got his wish both times.

Durant holds the cards, and the Nets will likely ship him wherever he wants to play next.

Would the Mavericks be that team? Fans have to believe they are on the shortlist. Luka Doncic is one of the five best players in the NBA. KD will want to join another star and compete for a championship. Dallas was just in the conference finals and has a 23-year-old superstar doing historic things on a nightly basis.
