Pass or pursue on trade to improve Dallas Mavericks starting 5: 3. Get Gordon

The Mavs made a similar trade with the rival Rockets earlier this offseason. They sent four players that were outside their playoff rotation and their 2022 first-round pick to Houston for Christian Wood. Would Dallas make a similar move to land Eric Gordon? Here is a look at the hypothetical trade.

Dallas Mavericks acquire: Eric Gordon

Houston Rockets receive: Dwight Powell, Josh Green, Frank Ntilikina, and a lottery-protected first-round pick

The Mavs only have 14 players under contract at the moment, so trading three more out to acquire one would put Dallas down to 12. The free agent market has thinned out, so pulling off any three for one at this stage in the offseason is a bit risky for any team.

Is Gordon worth a first-round pick? The Rockets have reportedly had him on the block for the last two years looking for one, and no team has met the asking price. The 33-year-old has played just 120 games in the last three seasons combined, and his offensive production dropped off last year as he averaged 13.4 points per game.

Should Dallas Mavericks pass or pursue an Eric Gordon trade: Pass

The price for Eric Gordon is just too high, especially given his age and recent injury history. Would Dallas give up a second-round pick to acquire him? That is more in the ballpark, but the Rockets remain steadfast in getting a first for the 6’3 guard. It should not come from the Mavericks.
